Family Empowerment Program
-
The Family Empowerment Program (FEP), funded by the Building Safer Communities Fund, is designed to support families of youth aged 12 to 18 in the Miramichi area who may be experiencing challenges or risk factors related to potential criminal involvement.
At the heart of the Family Empowerment Program is the belief that individuals and families thrive when their needs are understood and supported. Family Empowerment Workers begin by building a relationship with each family and conducting a thorough assessment using the Family Resource Scale. This tool helps identify areas where families may need guidance or access to resources, forming the foundation for personalized case planning.
As part of the support offered, families can participate in the Standard Teen Triple P program—a 10-session, evidence-based parenting program designed to empower parents in navigating the challenges of raising teens. Starting with an in-depth evaluation of family dynamics, parents are encouraged to set meaningful, personalized goals. These might include improving communication, encouraging independence, or addressing specific behavioral concerns. Through this process, families are equipped with practical tools and strategies to create a more positive and connected home environment.

Families enrolled in the Family Empowerment Program (FEP) will be connected with a dedicated Family Empowerment Worker who provides one-on-one support on a bi-weekly basis or as needed. Sessions are held at our comfortable family-friendly space located at 20 Fountain Head Lane, virtually or in a community setting that works best for the family.
Family Empowerment Workers begin by building a strong, trusting relationship with each family. They use the Family Resource Scale to guide an in-depth assessment of the family's needs. This helps identify areas where additional support or resources may be helpful and serves as the foundation for personalized case planning.
As part of the program, families have the opportunity to participate in the Standard Teen Triple P — a 10-session, evidence-based parenting program designed to support caregivers in navigating the ups and downs of raising teenagers. The program starts with a deeper look at family dynamics, then helps parents set meaningful, personalized goals. These may include improving communication, supporting teen independence, or addressing specific behavioural challenges. Families are equipped with practical tools, strategies, and support to strengthen their relationships and create a more positive, connected home environment.
Transportation is available if needed, and the entire program is completely free of charge.
